REVIEWS & THANKS

Normally I am not an “I-told-you-so” kind of guy, but I am making an exception this morning.  This weekend was wonderful!  Let me tell you a little about it, and also thank some folks for their work.

The youth and adults from Peachtree Christian Church arrived a little early on Friday afternoon, but they sure didn’t lounge around.  After a brief survey of the fellowship hall, the young people started moving in their scenery and equipment for the performance.  All hands were at work.  We just got out of the way and let them do their thing.  Meanwhile folks from our church arrived and began to prepare for the covered-dish supper.  With each group competing for some of the same “floor space,” it was a little confusing, but both groups worked courteously together.

The meal began on time.  There was a lot of food.  As one person said, “It looks like a mini Homecoming.”  But all of it was needed.  When the feasting ended, most of it was gone.  Kids can eat a lot!  The tables were mixed with folks from both churches and there was great fellowship at this fellowship dinner.

The musical “Narnia” then followed.  It quickly became obvious that these young people have been working hard this past year preparing to do this.  They were wonderful.  I think it was summed up best by a post-performance request by Wade Guyon to the group, “Come back next year.”  Someone else said it this way, “I had no idea they would be that good.”

The youth and adults packed their sets up and then went home with various church members.  I would like to thank the following folks for hosting:  Howard & Mollie Arden, Ann & Kirby Bishop, John & Loretta Capizzi, Dick & Eleanor Davis, Hal & Kathy Guyon, Wade Guyon, Jim Hockman, Lois Mahoney, Carolyn & Charlie McLean, Dot Rabon, Nancy Raley, and Angie & Derrick Sisk.  When everyone returned the next morning, it seems all went well in each home.

There were hugs and smiles from everyone present.  The Peachtree youth and adults were very thankful to everyone and we were certainly thankful to them for coming to our church.

Sunday morning we were still talking about their visit when the elders gathered for breakfast.  We had a good meal and devotion provided by Tootsie Crouch.  Then Carolyn McLean continued the study being done by the elders of “Unbinding Your Heart.”  Good stuff!!

Chaplain Sam Boone arrived at about 9:30 a.m.  He had volunteered to share a history of the chaplaincy in the military for our adult Sunday school classes.  Thanks to Jim Hockman for getting projection equipment for this.  Unfortunately I missed the lesson, but all reports say it was great.

The Colonel then joined us for worship and delivered our sermon.  Sam joked that since the first time he preached in our church, he was now losing sight (glasses) and hearing (hearing aids).   It became obvious that he has lost none of his preaching ability.  The sermon was both uplifting (God loves us) and challenging (God wants us to love other as God loves).  With Chaplain Boone and his wife retiring in the Columbia area, I hope that we will be able to have him preach for us again in the future.

Yes, it was a wonderful weekend, just as predicted.  It makes for a great start for the summer (our first post-Memorial Day Sunday).  The good news is that we have several other great weekends planned for this summer, with events that are sure to please.  BUT only if YOU are here!  See you soon.
